What better way to explore another culture than to share a meal together? That is just what we have in store for you to kick off the festival in 2012. We loved the show suggested by Cheptal from the start. Come and share in an african meal accompanied by amazing music and entertainment. A brilliant event full of energy and surprises, why not bring the family!

Seldom have we seen a band with such good press. It is well deserved. Debademba has mesmerized us. This band’s music represents what we love on this festival : a contemporary sound constructed on solid roots.

But theres is something else about Debademba. This band developed itself under the spotlights of concert halls rather than in the confined space of recording studios. « World Music Album of the Year » for Libération, three keys in Télé Rama, recommended by France Inter, Fip, Mondomix,…

2012 will be the 50th anniversary of Algeria’s independence. Considering recent events in the Arab world, it was impossible not to invite Gnawa Diffusion. For 20 years the band has been successful at home and abroad. It’s an honor for us to receive them for their great come-back. After a 5 year break, they return with an lively new album. How lucky we are to be amongst the first to discover this new recording.

Sometimes the administrative council has to debate between different programming choices. There was absolutely no arguing in choosing Gnawa Diffusion because their music reflects everything that we stand for. It is deeply rooted in tradition, but thrives from a cultural mix. This is a politically committed group whose presence was naturally unquestionable in our festival.
